Interlock Driveways
Vehicle-rated paver driveways built on deep compacted base with proper edge restraint and a locked-in border course.
An interlock driveway is a flexible pavement. It carries load through the base and transfers it between pavers, which means the base depth and compaction are doing most of the structural work.
Driveway installations require deeper excavation than a patio and a well restrained perimeter, or the field will spread and the joints will open.
Excavation depth
Vehicle areas are excavated deeper than walkways and patios. Granular base is placed in lifts and compacted between each lift rather than all at once.
Screed layer and laying pattern
A thin, uniform bedding layer is screeded over the compacted base. Herringbone patterns are the strongest choice under vehicle traffic because of how the units lock together.
Edge restraint and borders
A soldier course and mechanical edge restraint hold the field. Without restraint the outside rows migrate and the whole driveway loosens over a few seasons.
Compaction and jointing
The field is plate compacted with a protective pad, joints are filled with polymeric sand, and the surface is compacted and activated according to the sand manufacturer's process.
