Retaining Walls and Garden Walls
Block walls built on a compacted base with drainage stone behind them so water does not push the wall out.
Retaining walls hold back soil, and soil gets much heavier when it is saturated. Drainage behind the wall is as important as the blocks themselves.
We build garden walls, seating walls and grade-change walls, and we will tell you when a wall height or condition calls for an engineered design.

Base course
The base trench is excavated and compacted, and the first course is set level. Everything above it inherits whatever the base course does.
Drainage behind the wall
Clear stone and, where appropriate, drainage pipe are placed behind the blocks so water can escape instead of building pressure against the wall.
Backfill and caps
Backfill is placed and compacted in lifts as the wall goes up, and caps are secured to finish the top cleanly.
Height and permits
Taller walls and walls near property lines may require engineering or municipal approval. We flag this during the site assessment rather than after the fact.
